SCG WINDBOARD SCG Windboard Function in the Building Construction SCG Windboard is an important part of the ventilated facade. Depending on the rain screen design and choice of cladding material there are different demands to SCG Windboard in terms of fire protection and climate impact. This protection also depends on the size of potential openings in the facade cladding, which will be explained later in this section. portant to keep the wall dry to avoid unnecessary heat loss and not least to avoid damage caused by moss and algae growth. In this respect it is utmost important to have a min 100 cm2 air inlet per running meter wall at the bottom of the wall and a similar air outlet at the top of the wall. Between the facade cladding and SCG Windboard a ventilation gap of 20-25 mm is established for ventilating moisture out of the construction. SCG Windboard should primarily protect the insulation and basic construction against moisture penetration. It is im- The rain screen may be more or less open to the climate. Especially modern facade designs often are made with open parts like metal mesh sheets and similar. Thus it is very important that SCG Windboard is installed correctly protecting the basic construction from wind and rain. The general assumption is that an opening of 0.25-0.5 % of the facade area is adequate to secure levelling of air pressure. Joint openings of 5-6 mm have proved to be adequate to reduce water penetration of openings on standard facade board claddings. A wider opening will not stop water from being pressed through the openings and hit SCG Windboard. This means that measures have to be taken to secure that P Outside WIND PRESSURE penetrating water is diverted back to the outside of the building in order not to make any damage in the construction. The diversion of water is normally secured for each individual floor and also over window and door openings. (Please also see “sealing of joints” in section 7. Installation.) The durability of SCG Windboard is very important since in most cases it will be exposed to the climate in a shorter or longer period of time before the rain screen is installed. A correctly installed SCG Windboard Lite board may be left exposed to the climate for 3 months. A correctly installed SCG Windboard Base board may be left exposed to the climate for 6 months. A correctly installed SCG Windboard Extra board may be left exposed to the climate for 12 months. PInside Productinformation // SCG WINDBOARD 3
